Guru Nanak Day Centre

I visited the Guru Nanak Day Centre in Gravesend and was shown around the work that has been done at the centre for many years with the Sikh community.

It was a fascinating visit and I was very interested to see the daily range of activities are provided including games and leisure time with the provision of lunch and a healthy eating scheme, adapting traditional recipes using often low fat ingredients.

The centre is shortly to move to new accommodation and I was pleased to be able to visit and look around the new centre. I also had the chance able to study the plans and discuss with Shaminder the Unit Manager the initiatives that he hopes to develop from June 2009 when the centre moves. By using an existing building adjacent to the Gurdwara (temple) they have managed to adapt the centre to make it fit for purpose and I am looking forward to the opening in the early summer.
