I am very keen to support this County Council scheme to provide trees to residents' groups and schools in Northgate and the St. Stephen's wards. I do hope this will make a vital contribution to the natural environment and by encouraging the planting of native trees there is a positive effect on the landscape and biodiversity in urban Canterbury.
I was pleased to be able to plant one of the trees and see the others in place, following the progress of the scheme from start to end.
Up to twenty five native trees are available per application and I hope the scheme will continue to run in future years.
At the same time last Saturday there was a planting day by volunteers and I was delighted to see so much enthusiasm from local residents. The community garden is now looking spectacular and thanks to all the volunteers involved who have worked so hard for several years.
